Mansa Clinic provides adult psychiatric care in Aundh, Pune. Dr. Ninad Baste - MD Psychological Medicine, Seth GS Medical College Mumbai, and former President of the Indian Psychiatry Society Pune Chapter - diagnoses and treats depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, and OCD using medication management combined with evidence-based psychotherapy.
A 2023 ICMR study found that 1 in 7 Indians has a mental health condition - and among urban professionals in Pune's IT, manufacturing, and services sectors, the proportion is climbing. Despite this, the average Indian adult waits 7 to 10 years between the first appearance of symptoms and the first appointment with a mental health professional.
That wait has a cost. Depression left untreated deepens. Anxiety that could have been resolved in 12 weeks of therapy becomes a decade-long pattern of avoidance. Relationships fracture. Careers stall. The brain, like any other organ, does better with earlier rather than later intervention.
You do not need to be in a crisis to see a psychiatrist. If your sleep is persistently disrupted, your mood has been low for more than two weeks, your anxiety is preventing normal activities, or you are using alcohol to cope - those are reasons enough.
Depression is not a character weakness or a bad mood. It is a medical condition involving changes in brain chemistry, thought patterns, and physical functioning. Symptoms include persistent low mood, loss of pleasure in activities, fatigue, disrupted sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating, and in more severe cases, thoughts of self-harm. Dr. Baste's approach combines careful diagnostic assessment with medication where appropriate and a referral to our psychology team for structured psychotherapy
Generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety, and phobias are among the most common conditions seen at Mansa Clinic. Each has distinct features, and each responds to different therapeutic approaches. We do not apply a one-size treatment to anxiety. We identify the type, the severity, the maintaining factors, and the right combination of therapy and medication for your specific situation.
Bipolar disorder is significantly underdiagnosed in India - partly because the elevated phases (hypomania or mania) are often experienced as productivity or confidence rather than illness. Accurate diagnosis is critical because the wrong treatment (for example, antidepressants without mood stabilisers) can worsen the condition. Dr. Baste's specialist training equips him to make this distinction reliably.
Psychotic disorders require psychiatric care - not just counselling. Mansa Clinic provides long-term psychiatric management for schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and brief psychotic episodes. We work closely with families to help them understand the condition, manage relapses, and support their family member's functioning and dignity.
Post-traumatic stress disorder can follow any overwhelming experience - not only military service or disaster, but also childhood abuse, domestic violence, accidents, medical emergencies, or chronic interpersonal stress. Ms. Taiba Patel, our Canadian Certified Counsellor with EMDR training, works alongside Dr. Baste to provide trauma-informed psychiatric care that addresses both the psychological and neurological dimensions of trauma.
Dr. Baste completed his MD in Psychological Medicine from Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai - one of India's most respected medical institutions. He served as President of the Indian Psychiatry Society, Pune Chapter (2017–18), has worked on the editorial board of the Annals of India Psychiatry, and was a postgraduate guide and associate professor at Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College. His specialist interests span neurocognitive medicine, sexual medicine, marital counselling, and personal counselling. He is a member of the Maharashtra Medical Council, the Pune Psychiatry Association, the Indian Psychiatry Society, and the Bombay Psychiatry Society.
Mansa Clinic does not operate on a prescription-first model. A psychiatric consultation at our clinic begins with a thorough assessment - your history, your current presentation, the context of your life, and your own goals for treatment. Medication is one tool among many. For conditions like mild to moderate depression or anxiety, therapy may be the primary treatment, with medication added only if progress plateaus or symptoms are severe.
When medication is recommended, we explain what it does, how long it typically takes to work, what side effects to watch for, and how we will monitor your progress. We do not hand over a prescription and ask you to come back in three months. We stay in the process.
